Faculty Outreach Committee: Small steps towards social transformation

The Faculty Outreach Committee of the College Unit envisions Benedictine educators who are cognizant of and sensitive to issues of society, responsive to the needs of the poor and the disinherited in our country with a firm commitment in the pursuit of truth, justice and peace. As such, we engaged ourselves in activities that promote sustainability, respect for human rights and dignity of persons and the environment, and providing venues for critical analyses of social issues such as gender, social justice, peace and integrity in governance.

Besides responding to the needs of those affected by disasters caused by calamities, we plan and work together to provide trainings and workshops to teachers and students of Marihatag and Han-ayan in Surigao Del Sur. The children of our adopted Lumad community in Mindanao are provided with school supplies, slippers, bags, umbrella and books to assist them in their school needs. Every month we provide catechism lessons and feed the street children in close coordination with the social workers of Tuluyan San Benito. In order to support all our outreach efforts we raise funds through rummage sale, pledges, solicitations, and film screening among others.

With the help and support of everyone, outreach initiatives among the members of the community engender the school’s social orientation and become an impetus towards deeper commitment to bring about social transformation in our country.
